AirTran flight attendants protest for new contracts

March 1 2011

AirTran flight attendants on Tuesday gathered and protested at Orlando International Airport, demanding new contracts after three years of unsuccessful negotiation, local media reported. Union flight attendants vice president Travis Bruce told WDBO that their last contractual raise was on November 30, 2008, keeping them in limbo for too long. Dozens of flight attendants chanting `buck up Bob` – directed at AirTran`s CEO Bob Fornaro – demanded new contracts, as Bruce argued that working conditions at the airline are some of the worst in the business, saying they have `the longest duty days` and `the shortest rest periods.` As AirTran is expected to enter a merger with Southwest, Bruce said flight attendants want new contracts before the transaction occurs.
