Ms al-Obaidi was trying to tell foreign journalists her story when she was forcibly bundled away by government agents.
A spokesman, who initially claimed she was drunk and possibly mentally ill, has now said she is a sane person and in good health.
Libyan officials say the woman is now being cared for by the criminal investigation bureau, who are taking her claims seriously.
The mainly female protesters carried posters that said:”Patience Eman, we are coming for you. Your cry will not go to waste.”
